VMC 9147 BN #6 Jig Hook

Product detailed description
The VMC 9147 BN #6 Jig Hook is the next step up from #8 for light perch jigs and smaller soft lures. Choose it when a shorter hook no longer places the point in a suitable solid section of the lure. Compare #8 and #6 against the same lure before rigging: the lure should sit straight behind the head and leave enough room inside the hook bend. If you only need a faster fall or better bottom contact, increasing the head weight does not in itself require a larger hook.
Aberdeen 90° – classic geometry for jig heads
The VMC 9147 Aberdeen Jig 90° uses the traditional Aberdeen shape with a regular shank and a 90° front bend. It is primarily designed for conventional jig heads. Choose the hook size to suit the lure body and the intended exit point; head weight alone is not a reason to change hook size automatically.
When rigged, the soft lure must sit straight on the shank and leave the hook bend and point enough room to work. On a slim soft jerkbait, keep the rear section free to move; on a deeper-bodied paddle tail, also check the space inside the hook bend. Before casting a batch, always test the actual hook in a dry mould and make sure the mould closes fully.
Black Nickel + Cut Point – the character of the 9147 BN range
BN stands for the Black Nickel finish. The range uses Hi-Carbon Steel and the classic VMC Cut Point. The 9147 design differs from the VMC 5150: the same 90° front bend does not mean the hook bend, shank or eye have the same shape. Only assume compatibility when the particular model is explicitly listed for the mould.
Choosing a mould and using size #6
For the VMC 9147 BN #6, choose a mould that explicitly lists this model and size. A similar cavity shape or matching hook angle does not establish compatibility on its own. During a trial fitting, the hook should sit in place without forced bending and the mould must close fully.
The pack contains 20 or 100 VMC 9147 BN hooks in size #6, depending on the selected variant. The smaller pack suits testing a particular setup; the larger pack suits repeated production of jig heads with the same hook.
For casting your own jig heads, you can add an RCBS Easy-Melt 240V melting pot or a Lyman Big Dipper 230V. Finish the cast heads with the Amigo fluid bed and powder paints for lead.
Technical note: The VMC 9147 has a Regular shank and a Flat Eye Jig eye with a 90° front bend. Eagle Claw 570B, VMC 5150 and VMC 7161 in the similar products section are included for comparing designs. They are not automatically interchangeable; the VMC 7161 also has 60° geometry. Check the mould specification again whenever you change hook model.
Frequently asked questions about VMC 9147 BN #6
Do I need a larger hook with a heavier jig head?
No. Hook size mainly determines how the soft lure is rigged; head weight affects presentation and the rate of fall.
What does Aberdeen Jig 90° mean?
It is a classic Aberdeen jig hook with a 90° front bend. The design is intended for making conventional jig heads.
What does BN mean?
BN stands for the Black Nickel finish. It does not describe the hook shape or a strength rating.
Can I replace a VMC 9147 with a VMC 5150 of the same size?
Not automatically. Both models have a 90° front bend, but the hook bend, shank and eye differ. Always check compatibility with the particular mould.
How can I tell whether a soft lure is rigged correctly?
The lure should sit straight behind the head, the point should exit through a solid section of the body, and the active rear section must remain free.
