British Green is a great choice when you want your lead to “blend in” with nature – it matches weedy, algae-covered or muddy bottoms especially well. This rubberized coating for lead creates a tough, abrasion-resistant surface layer that protects the weight and keeps holding up even when your sinkers hit hard ground regularly.

Most commonly you’ll use it on heavy carp leads and casting weights (in-line leads, backleads, flat weights, hangers and other sinkers made for rough handling). Compared to classic powder coating, rubberized coating is thicker and heavier, which you’ll notice mainly when applying with a fluid bed – you need stable airflow for an even and consistent finish. That’s why the Hailea ACO 208 compressor makes sense here: it provides the required output plus a bit of reserve.

A big advantage is that you can mix shades. British Green works as an excellent base for “mossy” natural tones – darken it with a darker shade or soften it with a lighter one. We recommend mixing smaller batches and testing on one piece first.

recommended coating process (proven):

1. prep: clean and degrease the lead (clean surface = coating sticks)

2. heat: warm the lead to about 160–200 °C (hot-air oven usually 10–15 min, torch just a few seconds – do not let the lead start melting)

3. apply the coating:

   • fluid bed: ideal for batches; with rubberized coating you need stable airflow (Hailea ACO 208)

   • quick dip into powder: dip hot lead briefly and pull out immediately; shake the container beforehand

4. tap off: gently tap off excess to keep the layer even

5. cure: for maximum durability, cure at about 180 °C for 10–20 min

6. cool: let it cool down freely in the air or hang it

tip for a “mossy” effect: while the base layer is still warm, lightly dust a slightly darker shade (or pre-mix shades) and then cure.
