Product detailed description

Lime Green Camo rubber coating powder provides a light green camouflage shade for grass, weed and fine gravel. It is used to finish lead fishing castings after casting and deburring. Natural colours can help match a weight to its surroundings; choose against the bottom and vegetation where you fish.

The applied layer forms a protective coloured surface and helps reduce direct contact between the lead and its surroundings. Correct cleaning, even heating and baking are essential for adhesion and wear resistance. Contact with rocks, sharp edges and repeated use can still damage the finish; check the coating after fishing, particularly in salt water.

Use it on carp weights, inline leads, backleads, flat weights and other lead castings suited to the heating process. For jig heads and pilkers, keep attachment eyes, hook points and moving joints free of paint. The powder is applied to the finished metal, so its use is not restricted to a particular mold model.

Rubber coating powder requires steady airflow when fluidised. A powder paint fluid bed XL offers space for larger or longer castings; the Hailea ACO-208 compressor provides airflow reserve for these powders. A small Amigo setup can handle small amounts and castings with a suitable stronger air supply; choose the complete setup according to powder behaviour and working space.

Shades in this rubber-coating range can be combined in small trial batches to adjust the tone. For a mottled finish, lightly add a second shade to the warm base or test a premixed colour; this changes the final appearance. Test adhesion, finish and airflow on one casting before coating a series.

Coating procedure

  1. Clean, degrease and thoroughly dry the casting. Remove burrs and release-agent residues.
  2. Preheat the metal evenly to approximately 160–200 °C. A convection oven commonly needs about 10–15 minutes for heat-up, depending on casting size and load. Check actual heating rather than relying on time alone.
  3. Briefly dip the casting into loosened powder or powder fluidised in a fluid bed. Remove immediately; prolonged dipping can leave an excessively thick layer.
  4. Tap off excess powder and check attachment eyes and line passages before baking.
  5. Bake the coating at approximately 180 °C for 10–20 minutes, using the tested practical procedure. Allow for the size of the casting and the time it takes to heat through.
  6. Let the casting cool naturally or hang it until fully cool. Inspect the first piece before continuing with a batch.

Choose the 100 / 1000 g pack in the variant list. Powder consumption depends on surface area, geometry and thickness, not just the lead’s weight. Keep unused powder dry and closed; separate colours when you want a repeatable shade.

For inline weights, protect the line passage and fit PVC liners only after the casting has cooled. Do not heat assembled plastic clips, rubber components or glued-on eyes. The temperature guidance here concerns coating the metal casting; it is not a casting temperature for molten lead.

Safe coating practice

  1. Work with ventilation and avoid breathing powder dust. Follow the coating label and safety instructions; use suitable eye, hand and respiratory protection.
  2. Handle hot castings with suitable tools on a heat-resistant surface. Keep workshop heating equipment separate from food preparation.
  3. Remove heat-sensitive PVC tubes, plastic parts and glued-on eyes before heating. Keep line passages, attachment eyes and moving joints clear.
  4. Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling lead. Clean the work area and wash your hands after use.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What is included?

The Lime Green Camo coating powder in the selected 100 / 1000 g pack. The mold, metal and coating equipment are sold separately.

Do I need a fluid bed?

A small casting can be dipped briefly into loosened powder. A fluid bed helps achieve even layers in a series; rubber coating powders need a suitably strong, steady air supply.

Can I combine different shades?

Test small amounts within this rubber-coating range first. Do not assume arbitrary powder types or clear coats are compatible.

Why does the coating form lumps or peel?

Check cleaning, even preheating, dip time, airflow and subsequent baking. Test one casting, allow it to cool fully and inspect the finish before coating the rest.
