Lead Coating Powder - Light Blue

Product detailed description
Light Blue is a great pick when you want to seal lead with a bold, clean color and a tough, abrasion-resistant finish. It’s made for jig heads, pilkers, cheburashka weights, screw-in jig heads, and also for terminal sea sinkers (paternoster and heavy bottom weights for cod/ling-style rigs).
The key benefit is durability: the coating holds up well and doesn’t chip off easily when your weight keeps touching rocks and rough ground. For saltwater use, there’s another big advantage — lead can oxidize fast in the sea (that dull, chalky layer). A rubberized coating helps protect the lead surface and keeps your sinkers looking and working better over time.
In practice, this coating performs best on “solid pieces” of lead (jig heads, pilkers, terminal weights). Compared to standard powder paint, it’s heavier and denser, so a steady airflow matters when using a fluid bed — that’s why we recommend the Hailea ACO 208 compressor for stable performance and enough reserve.
Shades can be mixed — Light Blue works nicely as a base for clean “sea tones” or for lightening darker blue blends. For extra visual punch, you can also combine it with high-temperature glitters (SaboFlex).
recommended coating procedure (field-tested):
-
prep: clean and degrease the lead (clean surface = better adhesion)
-
heat: heat lead to about 160–200 °C (oven typically 10–15 min, torch only a few seconds — do not melt the lead)
-
apply coating:
-
fluid bed: best for batches; rubberized coating needs stable airflow (Hailea ACO 208 recommended)
-
quick dip: dip hot lead briefly and pull out immediately; shake the powder container beforehand
-
-
tap off excess: gently remove extra powder for an even layer
-
cure: for maximum durability, cure at about 180 °C for 10–20 min
-
cool down: let it cool in the air or hang it up
tip for sea use: don’t skip curing on terminal sea sinkers and pilkers — that’s where abrasion + saltwater exposure is the toughest.
