Product detailed description

Navy Blue is a true saltwater classic — deep, dark blue that looks natural on lead, yet stays visible when conditions get rough. It’s a great choice for jig heads, pilkers, cheburashka weights, screw-in heads and terminal sinkers (paternoster weights, ling/cod style rigs and similar setups).

The key benefit of rubberized coating is mechanical durability — it holds tight, doesn’t peel easily and resists abrasion from rocks and bottom contact far better than basic finishes. In saltwater there’s one more advantage: bare lead oxidizes fast (white film, sticky surface). With a rubberized coating, the lead is protected and stays usable for a long time.

In practice, rubberized coating performs best on “proper” lead pieces (jig heads, pilkers, terminal sinkers). Compared to standard powder paint it’s heavier and denser, so when using a fluid bed you need stable, even airflow — that’s why a compressor like Hailea ACO 208 makes sense for consistent results.

You can also mix shades — Navy Blue works perfectly as a base for darker “ocean” blends. For a stronger visual effect, it can be combined with high-temp glitters (SaboFlex).

recommended coating process (proven):

  1. prep: clean and degrease the lead (clean surface = better adhesion)

  2. heat: preheat lead to approx. 160–200 °C (oven usually 10–15 min; torch only a few seconds — do not melt the lead)

  3. apply coating:

    • fluid bed: best for batches; rubberized coating needs stable airflow (Hailea ACO 208 helps here)

    • quick dip: dip hot lead briefly and remove immediately; shake the powder container beforehand

  4. tap off excess: gently remove extra powder for an even layer

  5. cure: for maximum durability, cure at approx. 180 °C for 10–20 min

  6. cool down: let it cool freely in air or hang it

tip: for saltwater terminal sinkers and pilkers, don’t skip curing — that’s where abrasion and saltwater resistance really shows.
