Smooth Matt Camo Black is a matte “stealth” shade made for situations where you want the lead to stay as discreet as possible – dark bottoms, shade, snags and areas with debris. This rubberized coating for lead creates a tough, durable surface that protects the weight from abrasion and keeps holding up even with frequent contact against gravel or rocks.

It’s most commonly used on heavy carp leads and casting weights (in-line leads, backleads, flat pears, dropper-style weights and other leads that take a beating). Compared to standard powder paint, the rubber coating is thicker and heavier, which you’ll notice during application – especially when using a fluid bed. For stable and consistent airflow, a Hailea ACO 208 compressor makes perfect sense, as it provides both power and reserve for this type of coating.

Shades can be mixed together – Smooth Matt Camo Black is a great base for “camo” blends (darkening another shade, toning down bright colors, building natural transitions). We recommend mixing smaller batches and testing on one piece first.

If you want a subtle extra touch without losing the stealth look, you can also work with high-temperature SaBoFlex glitters – just keep it light to maintain the matte character.

recommended application (proven in practice):

1. preparation: clean and degrease the lead

2. heating: heat to approx. 160–200 °C (convection oven usually 10–15 min; torch only a few seconds—do not let the lead start to melt)

3. applying: use a fluid bed for batches, or do a quick dip into the powder (shake the container first)

4. tapping: gently tap off excess for an even layer

5. curing: approx. 180 °C for 10–20 min for maximum durability

6. cooling: let it cool in air or hang it

tip for matte stealth: Smooth Matt Camo Black also works great with darker shades – either by a light “dusting” while hot, or by mixing shades directly.
