Lead Coating Powder - Stone Camo

Product detailed description
Stone Camo is a natural grey tone made for subtle finishing on lead sinkers—especially where the bottom is stony, gravelly or hard. This rubberized lead coating forms a tough, abrasion-resistant surface that helps protect the weight during repeated casting and contact with stones.
It’s most commonly used on heavy carp leads and casting sinkers (in-line leads, backleads, flat pears and other weights that take a beating). Compared to standard powder paints, this rubber coating can feel thicker and more demanding in application—especially when you’re running a fluid bed. For consistent airflow and stable output, we recommend the Hailea ACO 208 compressor—ideal for powering a fluid bed setup when working with heavier coating materials.
Shades can be mixed to create custom tones—Stone Camo works great as a base for “stone/ash” blends or for lightening darker mixes. We suggest mixing smaller batches and testing one piece first.
recommended application (proven in practice):
-
preparation: clean and degrease the lead
-
heating: heat to approx. 160–200 °C (convection oven usually 10–15 min; torch only a few seconds—do not let the lead start to melt)
-
applying:
-
fluid bed: best for batches; stable airflow matters (that’s why Hailea ACO 208)
-
quick dip into powder: dip the hot lead briefly and pull it out; shake the container first
-
-
tapping: gently tap off excess for an even layer
-
curing: approx. 180 °C for 10–20 min for maximum durability
-
cooling: let it cool in air or hang it
tip for a stone-camo look: lightly dust a second shade onto the warm base layer (or pre-mix shades) and cure.
