Lead casting

In the Lead Casting category you’ll find a complete setup for making your own fishing sinkers — from melting pots/furnaces and ladles, through lead molds, to tubes/sleeves, jig hooks and swivels. And because a proper sinker doesn’t end with the pour, we also cover finishing: paints, fluid beds (coating cups/rollers) and safety gear for clean, safe work.

Casting your own lead weights has one big advantage: you control everything — weight, shape, eye position, running rig geometry and the little details that decide how the setup behaves in water. That’s why this category brings together the gear that actually matters in the workshop — for jig heads, pilkers, cheburashka weights, terminal sinkers and other lead components.

The workflow is straightforward: choose the right mold, prepare heat with a furnace/melting pot and ladle, then finish the build using tubes/sleeves, hooks and swivels. This lets you build weights exactly for your style — from lighter finesse sizes to heavy-duty pieces for saltwater.

Finishing is where most people decide between speed and maximum durability. Powder coating (Komaxit) is fast and simple, but it’s fair to mention that the coating is generally more brittle and can chip over time when it takes hard hits. If you want the toughest long-term surface — especially for saltwater and “serious abuse” — rubberized lead coating is the safer bet. Application is more demanding, but the result is the most reliable. That’s also why you’ll find fluid beds / coating cups/rollers and suitable compressors (including stronger solutions for rubber coatings) in the related sections.

And one more thing: lead work is always about safety. Use proper PPE, work in a well-ventilated space and keep the process clean — it makes the whole workshop routine calmer and safer.
