Your Mold F46 is an aluminum mold for casting fish-shaped jig heads weighing 10, 14, 19 and 26 g. Pair it with separately sold BH19 wire keepers and suitable VMC 5150 or VMC 7161 hooks to make your own jig heads for soft swimbaits and shads.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Your Mold F46 lead-casting mold makes fish-shaped jig heads in 10, 14, 19 and 26 g. The shaped head forms the front of a small baitfish profile when paired with a suitable soft lure. These weights are useful for targeting zander and larger perch with shads and soft swimbaits, as well as lighter saltwater lure fishing where conditions allow.

Start with the wire keeper, then choose your hooks. For this setup, add the separately sold Your Mold BH19 19 mm wire keeper. This small bait holder sits in the prepared groove below the hook shank and is embedded in the lead during casting. Its exposed bent section grips the soft lure and helps prevent it from sliding back from the head during retrieves, casts and repeated strikes.

Use one keeper for each jig head you intend to cast with this retention system. The BH19 is available in packs of 20 or 100 pieces: the smaller pack suits test pours and occasional lure making, while the larger pack is practical for regular production. Select the keeper first, then choose a compatible hook size to match the body of your lure.

The four weights let you adjust the loading to suit depth, current and lure resistance. With the same lure and line, a lighter head generally sinks more slowly and extends the pause between lifts. A heavier head helps maintain contact in stronger current or deeper water. Use the lightest head that still lets you control the lure and detect bottom contact; depth alone is not enough to choose the right weight.

The fish-shaped profile gives the lure a defined head section, but its action also depends on the line-tie position, the way the body is rigged and the tail design. Thread the lure on straight and choose a hook that leaves the active part of the body free to move, with enough hook gap exposed for a clean hookset.

The manufacturer specifies VMC 5150 hooks in sizes 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0, and VMC 7161 hooks in sizes 1/0 and 2/0. Individual sizes are not assigned to particular cavities. Before pouring, check that your chosen hook and keeper sit correctly in their grooves and that the mold closes fully without force. An identical size number on a different hook model does not guarantee the same fit.

From the mold to a finished jig head

  1. Prepare a clean, completely dry mold, a BH19 wire keeper and a suitable jig hook for each cavity you intend to fill.
  2. Position the keeper below the hook shank, seat both components in their grooves and check that the mold closes fully.
  3. Pour at the working temperature specified for your casting metal and melting equipment. The manufacturer's approximate 500 °C limit is not a recommended lead-pouring temperature.
  4. Once the casting has solidified and cooled to a safe handling temperature, remove it, trim the sprue and check that both the hook and keeper are firmly anchored.
  5. Prepare and coat the surface according to the instructions for your chosen powder paint or rubber coating. Test the finished head with your selected soft lure before casting a larger batch.

Lead-casting equipment and process overview

If 26 g is still too light to control your lure, consider a mold for heavier heads. For a finer presentation, choose a lighter head and a suitably sized hook so that neither the loading nor the hook shank restricts the lure unnecessarily. Alternative molds below cover other casting weights and jig-head shapes.

The manufacturer does not specify the diameter of adhesive eyes for this F46 version. If you want to add eyes, measure the recess on a test casting before choosing their size.

Casting safety

  • Never pour molten metal into a damp mold. Hooks, keepers and tools must also be completely dry.
  • Wear safety glasses and suitable protective gloves, and work on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Provide effective ventilation and follow the instructions for the casting metal and melting equipment.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke in the work area. Keep lead-working tools separate from household utensils and wash your hands after work.

Frequently asked questions about the F46 mold

How do I choose the right weight for zander and perch?

Start with a lighter head and increase the weight if you lose contact with the lure or cannot detect it reaching the bottom. Stronger current, a larger lure and thicker line usually require more weight. There is no fixed depth range for each head weight.

Does every listed hook size fit every cavity?

The manufacturer does not confirm this. The listed sizes apply to the mold as a whole. Test your chosen combination before pouring: the hook must sit correctly in its groove and the mold must close fully without force.

Do I need to buy the bait holder separately?

Yes. Add the BH19 19 mm wire keeper to make jig heads with the exposed wire holder shown in the photos. You need one keeper per head. Choose a pack of 20 or 100 pieces, then select your compatible jig hooks.

Can I add the wire keeper after casting?

The BH19 is designed to be embedded during casting. Position it in the mold before pouring; it is not a screw-in keeper for fitting to a finished head.

Can I cast a metal other than lead?

The manufacturer specifies low-melting metals up to approximately 500 °C. Set the actual working temperature according to the chosen material and equipment. A metal with a different density changes the casting weight, so weigh your first sample.
