The Your Mold F41 lead casting mold lets you make fish-shaped jig heads in 30 and 40 g. Two separate cavities provide a simple working pair: a lighter and a heavier head for the same soft bait body. A practical benefit is the option to use VMC 5150 4/0 or 5/0 for both weights. A 30 g head therefore does not automatically mean a smaller hook, or a 40 g head a larger one. Use F41 for zander and pike lure fishing, or for pollack, coalfish and cod in Norway when current and drift allow you to control the lure with these weights.

The fish profile forms a prominent front section that meets the body of a paddle-tail shad or soft jerkbait. The molded head details add to the silhouette of a small fish, while the soft bait shape and retrieve create the movement. A shad uses its paddle tail; a soft jerkbait responds more to changes of speed, short lifts and a controlled fall. The cast collar behind the head helps retain the lure nose. The soft bait must accept it without tearing and remain straight. A bulging or bent nose can impair the action of the complete rig. For a very thin body, compare a head without a bulky collar. If you use an adhesive, choose one suitable for the material of the actual lure.

The 10 g difference between the heads produces a noticeable change in loading. Start with 30 g when you can feel the rig and want a longer fall. Move up to 40 g as current, drift or lure resistance increases. The extra weight helps maintain control but also speeds up the descent and changes how long the bait stays in the chosen layer. Above the bottom, recognise contact and lift the head in time; in the water column, follow the depth holding fish. No weight has one fixed depth of use. If you need a lighter starting point or more intermediate weights, compare F66 with 18, 20, 30 and 35 g among the jig head molds. Always check the specified hook sizes when choosing another mold.

The confirmed hook series for F41 is VMC 5150 in sizes 4/0 and 5/0, including the VMC 5150 BN 4/0 jig hook. The Barbarian Large Eye Jig 90° model uses high-carbon steel, a Needle Cone point, a larger eye and a distinctive angled bend. Its 90° front bend must seat correctly in the mold groove. First lay the hook against the side of the soft bait and check where the point will emerge, clearance above the body and shank reach. The lure must not fill the entire gape or have too much of its moving tail stiffened by the hook. More head weight does not increase this clearance. BN denotes the dark Black Nickel finish and RD the red version. After saltwater fishing, rinse the rig in fresh water and dry it.

Within the ZOOM range, choose G-TAIL or Magnum II after checking the actual fit on your selected hook. Lure length alone does not confirm compatibility: a long, slim body may need different rigging from a tall shad of the same length. Use a smaller hook and a suitable mold for small nymphs. Remove sharp edges, finish the surface with powder paint or a suitable flexible coating for lead according to its instructions, and keep the hook eye clear. Test the first rig in the water to check that the lure does not spin, the tail moves freely and the nose stays against the head.

Casting weights and hook compatibility

The supplier explicitly lists both hook sizes for both weights. Choose head weight according to the water and retrieve, and hook size according to the soft bait. Before casting, check the seating of the actual hook, including its eye, and ensure the mold closes fully.

Hooks, coatings and other accessories are not automatically included with the mold and are chosen separately. The bait-retaining collar is cast together with the head. The stated weights apply to lead castings; another metal may produce a different weight in the same cavity. The manufacturer’s stated mold operating limit of approximately 500 °C is not a recommended pouring temperature.
