The Your Mold F106 lead casting mold lets you make articulated fish-shaped heads in 25, 45, 60 and 75 g. Four separate cavities provide the same head design at different weights. Its defining feature is a movable connection between the head and hook through a cast-in wire loop: the hook is not fixed within the lead casting. Use this setup for saltwater lure fishing from a boat, for example in Norway for pollack, coalfish and cod, when the chosen weight provides effective lure control. With a suitable hook and soft bait body, the same construction can also be used for freshwater zander and pike fishing.

The joint allows the hook and its soft bait to move relative to the head. A paddle-tail shad adds its own tail action, a curly-tail lure produces a waving movement, and a soft jerkbait responds mainly to changes of speed and rod-tip movement. The joint must remain free after the soft bait is rigged; a bulky front section or an unsuitable ring can restrict it. The fish profile with gill detail forms a pronounced front section of the rig. Alternate lifts and controlled falls, or retrieve steadily at the depth of the fish. Articulation alone does not protect against snags: over uneven ground, monitor the lure position and lift it clear of obstacles in time.

Choose 25 g when you can still maintain lure contact and want a slower fall. 45 g provides the next weight step; move up to 60 or 75 g in stronger current or drift, or when the soft bait and line create greater resistance. Head weight is not tied to one particular depth. When fishing through the water column, reaching the intended layer and controlling the retrieve matter; when working above the bottom, you also need to recognise bottom contact. Choose head weight separately from hook size. A heavier head does not create more clearance above the lure body or establish the strength of the complete rig. F106 is designed for size 1 wire loops, specifically brass 7201 or stainless steel 7204. The range includes the original Your Mold stainless steel loop in size 1. Thread an eyed hook or connecting ring into the appropriate loop eye before casting. To replace the hook later, use a suitable split ring and check both its fit and freedom of movement in the joint. A fixed, cast-in VMC 5150 jig hook is not the specified arrangement for F106. Match the size and type of suspended hook to the soft bait, clearance in the loop eye and intended fishing method. The hook size number alone does not guarantee a suitable connection.

Choose the lure according to body thickness, hook shank length and where the point will emerge. Leave clearance above the soft bait for a hookset and avoid restricting the moving rear section. Curly-tail profiles in the ZOOM range provide an active tail; SAF PLASTI-X BRAVO with its paddle tail or X-RAY without an active paddle tail offer different ways of presenting the lure. These are options for building a rig: test the actual fit with your chosen hook. Check the first setup in the water to confirm straight rigging and a freely moving joint. Finish the head with powder paint or a suitable flexible coating for lead, following the coating instructions. Keep the eyes clear and the joint free to move; the coating must not bond the components together or block their movement.

Casting weights and rigging

The overview lists lead casting weights and the wire loops specified for the mold. It is not a size chart for fixed, cast-in jig hooks. Thread the hook or connecting ring into the loop eye before pouring. The components must allow the mold to close fully and the hook to move freely after casting.

Choose wire loops, hooks, rings, coatings and soft baits separately; they are not automatically included with the mold. Before making a larger batch, produce one test casting and check the complete rig. Actual weight also depends on the metal used and trimming. The articulated connection needs a correctly seated, firmly anchored wire loop, sufficient clearance in its eye and free movement of the attached hook.
