Lyman Casting Dipper – lead casting ladle
Code: LYM/2867790Related products
Product detailed description
The Lyman Casting Dipper 2867790 is a hand casting tool with a cast-iron head, long metal stem and wooden handle. It is used for scooping, stirring and controlled pouring of molten lead alloys. Its pouring channel directs the stream towards the mould inlet; the manufacturer specifies assembly for right- or left-handed use.
For fishing sinker casting, compare the outlet shape with the actual sprue opening. This is a manually operated dipper, without a universal mechanical connection to every fishing mould. Arrange the mould so that the stream can enter its feed opening smoothly without catching the edge.
Melt cleanliness and temperature need separate attention. A suitable pouring shape helps control the stream, but cannot remove every oxide or guarantee a cavity-free casting. Cold tools, unsuitable temperatures or interrupted pouring can affect the result even with a well-designed dipper.
Practical procedure
- Check the head and handle assembly; select right- or left-handed setup according to the manufacturer instructions.
- Prepare a clean, completely dry dipper and a securely supported mould.
- Take a manageable charge from the clean melt, allowing for sprues and handling losses.
- Guide the outlet to the mould inlet and pour steadily; rest the tool on a dry, non-combustible surface.
For an externally heated setup, consider the Lyman Lead Pot cast-iron vessel. Check access and clearance for safe handling; a shared brand alone does not establish an appropriate casting charge.
For a larger specified charge, compare the Your Mold 500 g stainless steel ladle and the dimensions of your casting setup. Supplied as one Lyman Casting Dipper; furnace, lead and casting mould are sold separately.
Use only dry moulds, metal and tools. Moisture contacting molten lead can cause violent spattering. Wear eye protection, heat-resistant gloves, protective clothing and closed footwear. Provide effective extraction or ventilation. Lead and contaminated dust are toxic; keep food, drinks, children and pregnant people away from the work area. Wash your hands after work and safely remove residues and dust.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Can it be assembled for left-handed use?
Yes. Lyman explicitly specifies right- or left-handed assembly.
Can it stir molten alloy?
Yes. The manufacturer also specifies stirring lead alloys. Work gently without striking the vessel.
Does the pouring channel guarantee no air pockets?
Results also depend on alloy cleanliness, temperature, mould and filling technique. The dipper shape alone cannot guarantee this.
Does its outlet fit every fishing mould?
Check inlet size and position and the required charge. Universal mechanical fit with arbitrary moulds is not specified.
