RCBS Ingot Mould – cast-iron lead ingot mould
Code: RCBS/80005Related products
Product detailed description
The RCBS Ingot Mould 80005 is a four-cavity cast-iron mould for preparing lead ingots for later remelting. It divides known alloys into manageable batches, separates different mixes and helps organise metal for subsequent fishing weight casting.
Pour prepared molten alloy into the mould, then use the solidified ingots as stock for a suitable melting vessel. Actual ingot weight varies with alloy and fill level. Check ingot dimensions and access to the actual furnace before remelting.
Casting an ingot neither cleans nor analyses the metal. Unwanted alloying elements remain after recasting. Keep known alloys separate and label them clearly once cool. This helps repeat the intended casting process and avoid accidentally mixing different batches.
A lifting tab accepts suitable tongs or pliers. The manufacturer designs the mould for rapid cooling, but safe release depends on fill, temperature and ambient conditions. Do not cool the mould with water while working with molten metal, and do not assume solidification means the surfaces are cool.
Practical procedure
- Place the clean, dry mould on a level, stable, non-combustible surface.
- Prepare a known alloy and suitable dry pouring tools.
- Pour steadily into the selected cavities, leaving a margin against overflow.
- Release ingots by the proper method after safe solidification; label once cool and store dry.
A Lyman Lead Pot cast-iron melting vessel with suitable heating and casting tools can prepare the melt. For another ingot design, compare the aluminium Lee Ingot Mold with two ingot sizes; an equal cavity count does not imply equal construction or finished block dimensions.
Supplied as one four-cavity RCBS Ingot Mould. Tongs, ladle, furnace and lead are sold separately. This mould prepares metal for later casting; a separate fishing mould produces the finished sinker shape.
Use only dry moulds, metal and tools. Moisture contacting molten lead can cause violent spattering. Wear eye protection, heat-resistant gloves, protective clothing and closed footwear. Provide effective extraction or ventilation. Lead and contaminated dust are toxic; keep food, drinks, children and pregnant people away from the work area. Wash your hands after work and safely remove residues and dust.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
How many ingots can be cast at once?
The mould has four separate cavities and can cast up to four ingots simultaneously.
Is it aluminium?
The original RCBS instructions specify cast iron.
Does the mould remove unwanted alloying elements?
No. Recasting into ingots does not change the alloy composition or establish the purity of unknown material.
Can an ingot immediately be added to another furnace?
It must be dry and suitable in size and composition. Follow the actual furnace instructions for adding metal.

→ Separate and label ingots by alloy composition; select your final fishing mould separately.
