RCBS Lead Dipper – 292 mm lead casting ladle
Code: RCBS/80015Related products
Product detailed description
The RCBS Lead Dipper 80015 is a hand tool for scooping, stirring and pouring lead alloys. It has a tapered pouring spout, a solid hardwood grip and an overall length of 11½ inches, approximately 292 mm. A square foot under the head helps resist rolling when the tool rests on a suitable level surface.
The manufacturer shapes the outlet for mould sprue openings. For fishing weights, check the actual inlet, required charge and clearance for approaching the mould. The charge includes both the finished castings and their feed channels and sprues; the weight of one finished sinker alone is insufficient for tool selection.
Do not apply direct heat to the dipper bowl. This requirement is explicit in the RCBS instructions. Use the dipper to handle molten alloy in a suitable vessel, and protect the grip from flame and radiant heat.
Practical procedure
- Prepare a clean, completely dry dipper, mould and resting area.
- Check pot access and a safe reach for the handle.
- Take a manageable charge of clean alloy and guide the spout towards the mould inlet.
- Pour steadily and rest the tool where it cannot overturn or contact others.
A Lyman Casting Therm digital thermometer can help check the bath temperature. For alloy cleaning, use Clean Cast Lead Flux according to its own instructions; the dipper does not replace melt preparation.
Supplied as one RCBS 80015 dipper. The melting vessel, lead and mould are sold separately. A wooden grip and resting foot do not remove the need for protective equipment and a stable workspace.
Use only dry moulds, metal and tools. Moisture contacting molten lead can cause violent spattering. Wear eye protection, heat-resistant gloves, protective clothing and closed footwear. Provide effective extraction or ventilation. Lead and contaminated dust are toxic; keep food, drinks, children and pregnant people away from the work area. Wash your hands after work and safely remove residues and dust.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
How long is the dipper?
RCBS specifies an overall length of 11½ inches, approximately 292 mm.
Can the bowl be heated directly over a flame?
No. RCBS explicitly instructs users not to apply direct heat to the bowl, to avoid damage.
What is the square bottom foot for?
It helps prevent rolling when the tool is set down on a suitable level surface.
Can suitability be judged only by sinker weight?
Allow for sprues, feed channels, safe handling and access to the vessel as well. The finished casting weight alone is insufficient.
