Platil Marine 0.70 mm / 27.5 kg, 100 m is designed for rig-body monofilament for homemade cod systems. Choose this stiffer rig monofilament with eye size and the required bait movement in mind. In a homemade tube-eel system, it provides a firmer body with branches matched to the hooks and baits. For tied connections, use a knot that seats neatly in the actual eye and test the completed trace under tension.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

Platil Marine 0.70 mm is primarily a material for homemade cod tube-eel systems and other firmer sea rigs. Its stiff character is more relevant here than in a delicate small-lure presentation. Treat it as rig-building material with a body, branches and neatly seated knots, rather than simply a soft terminal leader for every soft bait.

Firmer, stiffer rig monofilament needs to be chosen around the way the trace is built. In SAF practice, Platil handles differently from soft Regenerator, becoming almost wire-like in the heavier versions. Stiffness can help a body retain its shape while increasing the demands on eye size and connections. The 100 m pack supplies spare rigs and replacement sections for later trips.

SAF recommendation: Rig-body monofilament for homemade cod systems. Fit the tube eels to the selected hooks before checking spacing; only the completed bait reveals each branch’s real reach. The upper connection carries the complete rig, while the lower end needs a clear attachment for the metal lure or terminal sinker. If a small eye prevents a knot from seating, change the component or connection rather than forcing it tight.

Neighbouring diameters and rig choice. This version leans further towards firmer cod rigs than 0.60 mm. Move to 0.80 mm when rig and bait size genuinely call for a more substantial body; increased stiffness also demands more care with connections.

The upper connection of a multi-hook rig carries the complete setup, including possible loads from several hooked fish. Assess body and branches separately. Check each branch’s reach, hook movement and sinker attachment on the finished rig. Recheck spacing after changing hook or tube-eel size. A manageable shorter system can be more practical alongside the boat than a rig whose branches repeatedly catch each other.

For a tied connection, choose a knot suited to the actual monofilament and eye. Moisten it, align the turns and tighten steadily. If the line whitens, turns cross or the knot bears against a sharp edge, cut it off and retie. A crimped loop is an additional option only with a suitable sleeve and tool; their size cannot be copied from another diameter on similar breaking strain alone. Test each new connection under controlled tension.

Do not convert the 27.5 kg label figure into a fish weight you can lift by the trace. Connections, hardware and wear affect the completed rig. Inspect the terminal section and areas beside eyes after bottom or fish contact. Cut away damaged line, rinse used sea rigs in fresh water and let them dry. Keep spare material away from heat and direct sunlight. Abrasion resistance is not guaranteed bite protection; choose an appropriate terminal material when sharp teeth require it.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

When should I choose Platil Marine 0.70 mm?

Rig-body monofilament for homemade cod systems.

Can it be the body of a cod tube-eel rig?

Yes, homemade cod rigs are its main working application here. Match branch lengths and spacing to the actual hooks, tube eels and lower sinker.

Should I tie or crimp this diameter?

A tied connection is a practical option when the selected knot seats neatly in the actual eye. Moisten, align and test it. Crimping requires its own matched sleeve and procedure.

Why not choose Platil solely by another brand’s diameter?

In SAF practice Platil has a firmer construction and its heavier diameters serve distinctly heavy-duty roles. Equal diameter does not mean equal suppleness, eye size or end connection.

Does 27.5 kg describe the strength of the complete rig?

No. It is a declared material figure; connections, components and wear affect the finished rig. It is not a fish weight that can be lifted by the line.

When should I rebuild the trace?

After cuts, rough spots, flattening or damage beside an eye or connection. Remove the damaged section and test the replacement end fitting.
