The Your Mold F170 aluminum mold produces finned surf sinkers weighing 160 and 180 g. Two cavities use a cast-in size 1 loop, providing a choice of loads for shore rigs. Original Your Mold loops and the SAF universal size 1 stainless steel loop are compatible. Loops are ordered separately. Weigh the first finished casting before making a batch.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Your Mold F170 aluminum mold produces sea sinkers in 160 and 180 g, with one cavity for each weight. The elongated finned body takes a single cast-in loop at the narrow end for connection to a separate fishing rig.

F170 is intended for surf and shore fishing when the conditions call for a higher load. Its 20 g weight difference allows adjustment for surf, current and wind. Keep within the casting rating of the rod and complete tackle, including the bait. The fins are not wire grip legs and do not guarantee a particular casting distance or holding power in every current.

The manufacturer specifies a size 1 loop. A direct insert is the original Your Mold size 1 stainless steel loop (7204) with 1.4 mm wire. The SAF universal size 1 stainless steel loop with 1.3 mm wire is also confirmed for molds requiring size 1; it is a separate product. Do not confuse size 1 with 01, 05, 2 or 3.

Fit the loop into its groove before pouring. The embedded section remains anchored in the lead while the connection eye stays clear. F170 uses a fixed loop; the 3009 sea swivel specified for F167 is not automatically an alternative insert. Similar sinker bodies can require different components.

This offer is for the mold, rather than finished fishing sinkers. Order loops and casting accessories separately. F167 provides a lighter 100–140 g profile with a different insert; compare further designs in our pilker and sea-sinker mold range.

Weight and insert overview

Nominal lead weight Cavities Insert used during casting
160 g 1 cast-in size 1 loop
180 g 1 cast-in size 1 loop

From the F170 mold to a finished casting

  1. Prepare a clean, completely dry mold, a size 1 loop and casting tools. Choose the 160 or 180 g cavity.
  2. Seat the loop in its groove and check that both mold halves close fully without force.
  3. Secure the mold. Follow the mold, metal and melting-equipment instructions, allowing enough metal for the cavity and sprue.
  4. Once the metal has solidified and can be handled safely, remove the casting, let it cool and trim the sprue and edges.
  5. Check secure loop anchorage and a clear eye. Weigh the first casting and check its connection to the complete rig.

160 and 180 g are nominal weights for individual castings. Alloy, trimming and coating affect final weight. A ladle rated to exactly 180 g leaves no allowance for the 180 g cavity’s sprue or a working margin; select larger pouring equipment.

Finish the sinker with a suitable powder or rubber coating according to that product’s instructions. Keep the connection eye clear. Modeling clay and talc in the related tools are workshop aids, not specified cast-in components for F170.

Casting safety

  • Never pour molten metal into a damp mold. Lead, inserts and tools must also be completely dry.
  • Wear safety glasses and suitable protective gloves; work on a stable, heat-resistant surface with effective ventilation.
  • Follow the instructions for the mold, metal and melting equipment. The manufacturer’s approximate 500 °C mold limit is not a recommended pouring temperature.
  • Do not eat, drink or smoke when working with lead. Keep casting tools separate from kitchen utensils and wash your hands afterwards.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How many cavities does F170 have?

Two: one for nominally 160 g and one for 180 g. You can fill just the selected cavity.

Which loop should I use?

Size 1. The original Your Mold stainless steel 7204 and the confirmed SAF universal size 1 loop are suitable. They are distinct products.

Does F170 use the same insert as F167?

No. F170 specifies a fixed size 1 loop, whereas F167 uses the documented 3009 sea swivel. Do not transfer insert compatibility by appearance.

Are loops supplied?

This listing is for the mold on its own. Select and order loops separately.

Is a 180 g ladle sufficient?

The 180 g casting also needs metal for its sprue and a working margin. Choose pouring tools with appropriate safe capacity.
