Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Your Mold F147 Mini lead casting mold makes five light Spin Jig lures of 3.5, 4, 5, 6 and 7 g. It covers the lightest end of this range, especially for perch fishing, shallower areas and retrieves above obstacles where a small amount of weight provides enough control. When using a light rod, account for the completed lure including its blade and hook assembly.

A small weighted body and rotating blade provide two different signals: a small prey silhouette and moving flashes with vibration. The swivel allows the blade to turn as it moves through the water. Blade resistance has a strong influence on a light setup; an oversized blade can change both working depth and the retrieve speed required. Begin with steady movement, then try short lifts and controlled slowing. Check the action on the fall with the actual assembly.

Start with 3.5 or 4 g in calmer water and for light presentations, provided you maintain contact. Move to 5, 6 or 7 g for more control, longer casts or increased current. These are not fixed depth ratings: blade, line diameter and retrieve speed also matter. If a light body is insufficient, compare F229 8–14 g in the Spin Jig and tail spinner mold category.

F147 uses the 7145 insert, identified by the manufacturer as Einleger 20/15. This is the component specified for the mini mold. Do not automatically substitute size 01 or 05 loops from the other Spin Jig molds. Item 7145 is available from SAF as the insert for F147. The manufacturer also illustrates a 3008 swivel rated at 13 kg and 2047 rings. Seat every part in its intended position and check that the mold closes fully without force.

Finish with a suitable lead coating and 3 mm eyes. Choose a hook and blade in proportion to the small body, leaving enough clearance between them. With such a light lure, changing the ring, hook or coating thickness can noticeably alter final weight and balance. Complete and weigh the first lure, then check blade start-up at a slow retrieve before making a batch. Adjust the rigging if the assembly spins or the hook catches the blade.

The listed lead weights are without the blade. Weigh the completed lure to establish its final weight; a different casting metal also changes the result. The table lists components for this mold. A swivel rating does not rate the complete assembly.

From the F147 mold to a finished Spin Jig

  1. Prepare a clean, completely dry mold, the 7145 insert and a swivel for the chosen cavity. All inserted components must also be dry.
  2. Seat the components in their intended recesses. Check full closure without force and secure the mold. Keep the working part of the swivel clear of casting metal.
  3. Cast according to the instructions for the mold, casting metal and melting equipment. Use the working temperature specified by those instructions.
  4. Once solidified and safely cooled, remove the casting, trim the sprue and check component anchoring and open attachment points.
  5. Finish the surface, attach 3 mm eyes and fit the hook assembly and blade. Weigh the first complete lure and test its action in the water.

Equipment for casting your own lead tackle

Select loops or inserts, swivels, hooks, rings, blades, eyes and coatings separately; they are not automatically included with the mold. Check one complete lure before casting a batch. Similar products start with other Spin Jig molds, followed by jig molds for a different lure type. Each uses the components specified in its own description.

Safe lead casting

  • Never pour molten metal into a damp mold. Inserted parts and tools must also be dry.
  • Wear safety glasses and suitable gloves and use a stable, heat-resistant work surface.
  • Provide effective ventilation and follow the instructions for the casting metal and melting equipment.
  • Keep food, drink and smoking away from the work area. Separate lead-working equipment from household utensils and wash your hands afterwards.

Frequently asked questions about F147

Is the stated weight the weight of the complete lure?

The manufacturer states weights without the blade. Weigh the finished assembly; the components and casting metal affect its final weight.

Which insert do I need?

F147 specifies item 7145, Einleger 20/15. Size 01 and 05 loops from other molds are not automatic substitutes.

Must I fill every cavity at once?

No. Prepare only the cavity you need and check the first casting and complete rigging before making a batch.

Why does the blade fail to rotate on a slow retrieve?

Check swivel movement, clearance from the hook and blade size. Start-up also depends on the speed of water flowing past the blade.

When should I choose another mold?

If 7 g is insufficient for contact, casting distance or current, compare F229 8–14 g. Account for complete rig weight and its different components.
