The Your Mold F223 lead casting mold provides six weights: 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 g. It is the lighter end of the torpedo family, suited to searching the water ahead of the boat, fishing shallower edges and targeting fish in the water column. In Norway, use it for pollack, coalfish and cod where these weights provide enough control in the local current.

The 5 g steps allow small changes to the fall without a major change in presentation. A lighter casting can give the lure more time in the feeding layer, while a heavier one helps as drift or lure resistance increases. Greater depth does not automatically require a heavier head: when fish are suspended, the priority is to keep the bait at their level.

The narrow head and tapered front meet worm-style and soft-jerkbait bodies without a bulky transition. A slim profile and wire keeper are particularly useful for lures whose delicate front end could be stretched by a thick cast lead collar. The keeper must fit the mold groove, and the soft bait must remain straight after rigging.

Within the ZOOM range, start with slimmer profiles such as G-TAIL 15 cm; choose Magnum II only after checking its actual fit on the hook. SAF PLASTI-X X-RAY 20 cm can provide a longer bait with a light head, but its front section requires a check of the 4/0 hook gape. If the point sits tight against the body or the bait deforms, choose a head with a suitable larger hook.

The compatible hook series is VMC 5150 in 4/0. Choose head weight and hook size separately: a 50 g head does not automatically provide more clearance for a bulky lure. With ZOOM, use the movement of the tail; with paddle-tail-free X-RAY, work more with the rod tip and retrieve speed. The same principles can be used for zander and pike in freshwater when the lure size and weight suit the situation.

Stainless wire of 0.5–0.6 mm is specified for making the keeper, and the eye recesses take 5 mm eyes. Finish the head with a suitable coating for lead without filling the eye recesses or blocking the hook eye. Frequently asked questions about F223

Do I have to fill all six cavities in one casting session?

No. Each weight has its own pouring gate, so you can make only the weight you need. Six cavities mean six available castings, not an obligation to cast a complete set every time.

Are 25–50 g heads enough for fishing in Norway?

Yes, when the current, drift and fishing method allow you to control the lure. Strong current or fishing deeper near the bottom may require a heavier head.

Does X-RAY 20 cm automatically fit a 4/0 hook?

The actual body thickness and the clearance within the hook gape determine the fit. Test the rigging; a length of 20 cm alone does not confirm compatibility. Choose a suitable larger hook if there is too little clearance above the lure.

When should I move up to F220?

When you need 60, 70 or 80 g and a VMC 5150 6/0 hook. F220 extends the range with both higher weights and a different hook size.

Can I use the 19 mm keeper from F155?

Its dimensional fit in F223 has not been confirmed. Use a keeper shaped for this mold, check its position before casting and never force the mold closed.
