The Your Mold F223 lead casting mold covers six weights: 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 g. It is the lighter end of the torpedo family, suited to searching the water ahead of the boat, fishing shallower edges and targeting fish in the water column. In Norway, use it mainly for pollack, coalfish and cod where these weights provide enough control in the local current.

The 5 g steps let you adjust the fall without making a major change to the whole presentation. A lighter casting can give the bait more time in the feeding layer, while a heavier one helps as drift or lure resistance increases. Greater depth does not automatically require a heavier head: when fish are holding well above the bottom, the priority is to keep the lure at their level. When hopping along the bottom, compare the pause length too. If you can clearly feel touchdown with 25 or 30 g, 50 g may not improve the retrieve. Conversely, a lure swept off the intended edge or far behind the boat may need more weight. Assess the choice with the actual bait, line diameter and drift speed.

The narrow head and tapered front meet worm-style and soft jerkbait bodies without a bulky transition. A slim profile and wire keeper are especially useful for baits whose delicate front section could be stretched by a thick lead collar. The keeper must fit the mold groove, and the bait must remain straight after rigging. Without a substantial cast collar, the transition into the soft body can stay finer. The wire keeper should hold the bait without cutting or deflecting it during rigging. Test the setup in the water beside the boat: correct crooked action by checking the rigging and keeper position first, then adjust the retrieve.

Within the ZOOM range, start with slimmer profiles such as G-TAIL 15 cm; choose Magnum II only after checking its actual fit on the hook. SAF PLASTI-X X-RAY 20 cm can provide a longer bait with a light head, but its front section requires a check of the 4/0 hook gape. If the point sits tight against the body or the bait deforms, choose a different head with a suitable larger hook.

The compatible hook is VMC 5150 4/0. Choose head weight and hook size separately: a 50 g head does not automatically provide more clearance for a bulky bait. With ZOOM, use the tail’s movement; with paddle-free X-RAY, work more with the rod tip and retrieve speed. The same principles apply to zander and pike in freshwater when the lure size and weight suit the situation. The 5150 series uses an enlarged eye and a 90° bend; the chosen hook must seat precisely in the F223 groove. Every weight in this mold still uses 4/0. If a taller bait needs more clearance, choose another compatible head; changing from 25 to 50 g will not create more hook gape.

Casting weights and hook options

The listed hooks are specified for the mold as a whole. The specification does not assign them to individual cavities; dry-fit your chosen combination before casting. The same size number in another hook series does not guarantee the same dimensions or full mold closure.

Finish the head with a suitable powder paint or rubber coating and add 5 mm stick-on eyes. The manufacturer specifies 0.5 or 0.6 mm wire for making a keeper; the ready-made BH19 has no confirmed dimensional fit in F223. Frequently asked questions about F223

Do I have to fill all six cavities in one session?

No. Each weight has its own pouring gate, so you can make only the weight you need. Six cavities mean six available castings, rather than a requirement to cast a complete set every time.

Are 25–50 g heads enough for fishing in Norway?

Yes, when the current, drift and fishing method allow you to control the lure. Strong current or fishing deeper near the bottom may require a heavier head.

Does X-RAY 20 cm automatically fit a 4/0 hook?

The actual body thickness and free hook gape determine the fit. Test the rigging; a length of 20 cm alone does not confirm compatibility. Choose another head with a suitable larger hook if there is too little clearance above the bait.

When should I move up to F220?

When you need 60, 70 or 80 g and a VMC 5150 6/0 hook. F220 extends the range with both higher weights and a different hook size.

Can I use the 19 mm keeper from F155?

Its dimensional fit in F223 has not been confirmed. Use a keeper shaped for this mold, check its position before casting and never force the mold closed.
