SaBoFlex Motor Oil Pink is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, an airbrush colour or a surface coating.

In baitmaking, the name Motor Oil Pink combines a darker oily-brown to burgundy base with a pink-red cast. At a low dose, the shade may appear more delicate; the colour becomes deeper as the concentration and casting thickness increase. The name alone, however, does not confirm transparency, fluorescence, UV activity, colour shift or a non-migrating formulation. Always assess the result on a cooled sample made with your own plastisol.

For this colour, SAF recommends adding it in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky base. In clear plastisol at working temperature, you can see the shade change as you work and increase the saturation in small steps. Prepare the plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size varies with the dispensing nozzle, while the base plastisol, dose, lure thickness, other additives and lighting all affect the final appearance. Start with a small amount; you can add more colour to a mixture that is too pale, but you cannot remove concentrate once added. For repeatable production, record the amount of plastisol, the dose of colour and the additives used.

Motor Oil Pink can be used over the whole body for a darker oily colour base, on the back above a lighter pink, cream or pearlescent belly, or as a narrower coloured stripe in a laminate. Suitable high-temperature copper, gold, red or holographic glitter can complement the character of the shade. Test any new combination in a small batch first.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches and maintaining a broader workshop palette. The 250 g pack makes sense for regular production or repeating one recipe. The concentration and recommended method of use do not change with the pack size.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the colour upright in its original, tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Protect it from frost and significant temperature fluctuations. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to reach room temperature naturally before homogenising the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: particularly after transport, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label of this concentrated pigment paste, even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no visible loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been marked. After dosing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealable bag.

Does “Motor Oil” mean the colour shifts or is UV-active?

When should I choose a softer or deeper tone?

A lower dose is suitable when you want to retain a lighter colour impression or work with a thin layer. A higher dose creates a fuller, darker tone for the whole body or back. A cooled test casting is always the deciding reference.

Which colour makes a well-defined laminate with Motor Oil Pink?

As a darker layer, it can be trialled with cream, white, pearlescent or light pink. For a more muted combination, try an amber or smoke layer. Test every new composition in a small batch.

Which glitter suits the shade?

Copper and gold enhance its warm side, red highlights the pink-red cast, and holographic glitter adds a more neutral flash. Use glitter designed for the working temperatures of plastisol and test the amount on a small sample first.

Why can the colour of the concentrate in the bottle differ from the casting?

The concentrate is far more saturated than the finished mixture. The dose, clarity of the base plastisol, lure thickness, other additives and lighting all affect the final appearance. Do not assess the colour solely by the bottle or a photograph.
