SaBoFlex Junebug is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It is formulated to create a deep blue-violet to plum-purple shade. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into base plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, an airbrush colour or a surface coating.

Junebug is an established trade name for a dark-purple colour family; finished lures in this colour are also often paired with emerald-green glitter. SaBoFlex Junebug, however, is the base colouring paste, and you create any particular glitter recipe separately. A low dose may appear lighter and more blue-violet, while a higher dose may look darker to plum-purple. Only a cooled casting will show the exact result.

Junebug is not the same as Transparent Purple, Standard Purple or blue. The name alone does not confirm transparency, opacity, UV activity, fluorescence, a metallic or pearlescent effect, or the presence of glitter in the finished mixture. We do not attribute these properties to the colour without a separate technical data sheet.

For this pigment paste, SAF recommends adding it in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky base; in clear plastisol at working temperature, you can see the shade change after each addition. Prepare the base in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size depends on the dispensing nozzle, while the plastisol used, casting thickness, other additives and lighting all affect the appearance. Start with a small amount; you can add more colour to a weak mixture, but you cannot remove concentrate once added. For repeatable results, record the weight of plastisol, the amount of colour and all additives.

Junebug can be used for the whole body, a darker back or flank, or as one layer of a laminate with a lighter purple, smoke, black or pearlescent section. Suitable high-temperature green glitter can be added separately to create the look widely associated with the name; other workshop variations might use blue, red or black glitter. These are colour-design options, not a guarantee of effectiveness.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches and maintaining a broader workshop palette. The 250 g pack makes more sense for regular production or repeating one recipe, offers better value per gram and is easier to shake thoroughly because of its greater contents weight. The concentration and method of use do not change with the pack size.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the colour upright in its original, tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight, heat sources and frost. The manufacturer does not publish an exact storage-temperature range or frost resistance. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to reach room temperature naturally before homogenising it. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: particularly after transport, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label of this concentrated pigment paste, even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no visible loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been marked. After dosing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealable bag.

What shade does Junebug describe?

In industry terminology, Junebug is a dark-purple colour family, often with a blue or plum undertone. The exact shade is not standardised across manufacturers. With SaBoFlex, the deciding reference should therefore be a cooled test casting made from the same plastisol and in a similar thickness to the planned lure.

Does SaBoFlex Junebug contain green glitter?

The name Junebug is often associated with emerald-green glitter in finished lures, but the pigment paste itself is not a ready-made glitter recipe. To create this look, add suitable high-temperature glitter separately, after mixing the base colour.

Is Junebug the same as Transparent Purple?

No. Junebug is a separate dark blue-violet to plum shade, while Transparent Purple explicitly denotes a different colour variant. Without a technical data sheet, we do not assign any particular transparency or opacity to Junebug.

Is the colour UV-active, fluorescent or metallic?
