Product detailed description

SaBoFlex Transparent Blood Red is a concentrated liquid pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It creates a translucent dark-red base which, at a higher dose or in a thicker layer, may appear burgundy to very deep red. This is a colour concentrate to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, airbrush paint or a surface coating.

A deep Blood Red shade

Blood Red refers to the dark, saturated red part of the palette. The current SaBoFlex photograph shows a concentrate that appears very dark to burgundy in the full bottle; this alone does not determine the appearance of the finished lure. A low dose in a thin cast will look lighter, whereas a higher dose and greater thickness will create a deeper tone. Always confirm the result in a cooled sample.

The designation Transparent means that the colour is intended to produce a translucent tint. It does not mean a colourless lure and does not confirm fluorescence, UV activity, a metallic effect or resistance to colour migration. Blood Red is a separate colour designation and is not treated as interchangeable with other variants such as Ox Blood or Standard Red.

How to use Transparent Blood Red in a lure

Blood Red can be used for an entire translucent red body, a darker belly or flank, the tail or a narrow colour accent, and as a layer in a multicolour cast. As a trial, you can pair it with a black, brown, smoke, amber, clear or white section. Add separate high-temperature red, black, copper or gold glitter only after mixing the base colour. These are appearance suggestions, not a promise of fishing results.

Dosing into hot plastisol

For this range, SAF recommends adding the colour a little at a time to plastisol that is already hot and in a clear working state. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky base; in the clear, hot mixture, you can see the change after every addition. Always prepare the plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g or a single universal working temperature. The dispensing nozzle, base plastisol, lure thickness, other additives and lighting all affect the result. Start with a small amount, check a thin, cooled drop or test cast, and keep a record of the recipe.

Mix the colour first, then dose

SAF tip for easier homogenisation: we recommend placing 2 clean, completely dry stainless-steel mixing balls in a 50 g pack, and 2–3 in a 250 g bottle. They help redisperse the settled paste evenly before dosing. Do not use lead balls or ordinary steel that is prone to corrosion. Mixing balls are not included with the colour.

  1. Stir the base plastisol thoroughly from the bottom, then heat it in accordance with its manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a clear working state; do not overheat it.
  2. Thoroughly shake or stir Transparent Blood Red before dosing so that the paste is homogeneous throughout the pack.
  3. Add a small amount of colour to the hot plastisol first, then stir the mixture slowly but thoroughly.
  4. Check the shade in a thin, cooled drop or test cast. Increase the intensity with further small additions.
  5. Add glitter and other visual additives only after mixing the base shade. Record a successful ratio.

Choosing a pack size

The 50 g pack is practical for trying Blood Red for the first time, making small batches and testing thin colour accents. The 250 g option makes sense for regular use or repeating the same recipe. Pack size does not change the dosing method or the need to homogenise the paste thoroughly before use.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the bottle upright in its original, tightly closed packaging, in a dry place at a stable room temperature. Protect it from direct sunlight, heat sources, frost and significant temperature fluctuations. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to return naturally to room temperature and only then homogenise the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: With a concentrated pigment paste, a light oily film around the thread or a stain on the label may appear, particularly after transport, even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no apparent loss of contents, this superficial trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been marked. After dosing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealed bag.

Working safely with hot plastisol

  • Hot plastisol can cause severe burns. Wear safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves, long clothing and closed footwear.
  • Work on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure effective ventilation, ideally local extraction of vapours directly at the source. Follow the plastisol manufacturer's safety and temperature instructions, and do not overheat the mixture.
  • If the plastisol safety data sheet or an assessment of the working conditions requires respiratory protection, select a mask and filter suited to the specific substances and conditions. A standard particulate dust respirator may not protect against gases and vapours.
  • The container, dispensing nozzle and mixing tools must be clean and completely dry. Prevent water and other unsuitable liquids from coming into contact with hot plastisol.
  • Close the colour firmly after use, keep it out of reach of children, and follow the current product label and safety data sheet.

Frequently asked questions about SaBoFlex Transparent Blood Red colour

What will Blood Red look like after casting?

Expect a translucent dark-red tone which may appear burgundy and very deep at a higher dose or in a thicker section. The precise appearance depends on the plastisol, dose and thickness, so the cooled test cast is what matters.

Why does the colour look almost black in the bottle?

You are viewing the concentrate in a very thick layer that transmits little light. The red tone emerges after a small amount is dispersed in plastisol. Do not determine the final dose from the appearance of the undiluted contents.

Is Transparent Blood Red the same as Ox Blood?

They are not identical product names. Blood Red and Ox Blood are listed as different variants, so we do not conflate their appearance or properties. If you are choosing between them, compare physical samples in the same plastisol.

Can Blood Red be used solely as a narrow accent?

Yes. As well as the entire body, a small amount can be used for the belly, tail, lateral stripe or another separate layer. A thin element may appear lighter than a substantial part of the cast, so test the chosen layout in advance.

Is Blood Red UV-active or fluorescent?

The available documentation does not confirm these properties. Transparent identifies a translucent colour range, not a UV or fluorescent effect. If you need such an effect, choose a product that explicitly states it.

Will Blood Red migrate into an adjacent layer?

Without a separate technical data sheet, neither non-bleed performance nor long-term colour stability in a particular combination can be confirmed. Make a small batch of a new laminate first, then check the colour boundary after some time has passed.
