SaBoFlex Transparent Water Melon is a concentrated liquid pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It creates the translucent muted-green base typical of the industry name Watermelon. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, airbrush paint, a surface coating or a flavouring.

Water Melon means a green shade in soft baits

Although the name refers to a watermelon, in soft-bait terminology Watermelon denotes a translucent green palette, not the red colour of the flesh. The current SaBoFlex photograph shows a very dark green concentrate; after dispersion in plastisol, the shade becomes lighter according to the dosage and casting thickness. Make your colour decision only after examining a cooled sample.

The term Transparent means that the colour is intended to produce translucent colouring. It does not mean a colourless result and does not in itself confirm UV activity, fluorescence, a metallic effect or the presence of glitter. Watermelon Red, Watermelon Seed and Green Pumpkin are different industry names and are not treated as interchangeable with this product.

How to use Transparent Water Melon in a lure

Water Melon can be used as the main colour for an entire translucent green body, as a flank or back, or as one laminate layer. As workshop trials, combine it with a clear, smoke, brown, olive, black or paler belly layer. If you want to add texture, use separate high-temperature black, red, gold or copper glitter. These are appearance choices, not claims that the lure will be more effective.

Adding colour to hot plastisol

For this range, SAF recommends adding the colour in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and at a clear working state. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-cloudy base; in the clear, hot mixture, you can see the change after each addition. Always prepare plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g or a single universal working temperature. The result is affected by the dispensing nozzle, base plastisol, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount, check a thin, cooled drop or test casting, and keep a record of the recipe.

Choosing a pack size

The 50 g pack is practical for an initial test of the green shade, smaller batches and comparing different dosages. The 250 g option makes sense for regular use or repeatedly making the same recipe. Pack size does not change the dispensing method or the need to homogenise the paste thoroughly before use.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the bottle upright in its original, tightly closed container, in a dry place at a stable room temperature. Protect it from direct sunlight, heat sources, frost and substantial temperature fluctuations. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to return naturally to room temperature, and only then homogenise the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: With concentrated pigment paste, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label, particularly after transport and even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no evident loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been affected. After dispensing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or resealable bag.

Why is Water Melon green when a watermelon has red flesh?

In soft-bait industry terminology, Watermelon denotes a muted, translucent green shade. The name does not refer to the colour of the flesh. The current SaBoFlex photograph also shows a dark green concentrate.

Is Water Melon the same as Green Pumpkin?

They are not the same name and do not automatically have the same appearance. Watermelon is generally understood as a more translucent green, while Green Pumpkin tends to be brownish green and fuller. Always assess the specific difference using samples from the same brand and in the same plastisol.

Does this colour contain red or black flakes?

The name Water Melon alone does not confirm the presence of flakes, and the available information does not list them as part of the colour. Watermelon Red and Watermelon Seed are different names. Add your chosen glitter separately.

Why does the concentrate look almost black?

In a full bottle, you are viewing it in a thick layer and at high concentration. After mixing a small amount into plastisol and casting a thin section, the green tone and greater light transmission become apparent. The cooled test casting is what matters.

Can Water Melon be used for both the whole body and just the back?

Yes. Depending on the intended appearance, it can form an entire translucent green body, a separate back or flank, or one layer of a multicoloured casting. Test each layout in a small batch first.

Does the name Water Melon mean that the product smells of watermelon?
