SaBoFlex Transparent Gourd is a concentrated liquid pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It offers a translucent, warm shade in the yellow-orange to pumpkin-ochre part of the palette. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, airbrush paint or a surface coating.

A warm Gourd shade without confusing it with Green Pumpkin

The name Gourd refers to a gourd- or pumpkin-toned colour. Current product photographs show a yellow-orange to ochre-orange concentrate, but the paste in the bottle is not a reliable sample of a finished lure. We therefore do not equate Gourd with Green Pumpkin or attribute a green tone to it without a test casting.

The term Transparent means that the colour is intended to produce translucent colouring. The degree of translucency and final tone vary with the dosage, base plastisol and casting thickness. The name does not confirm fluorescence, UV activity, a metallic effect or non-migrating properties; without a technical data sheet, we do not attribute these properties to this variant.

How to use Transparent Gourd in a lure

Gourd can be cast as the main colour for the whole body, a warm belly or flank, or as a separate laminate layer. For an earthy appearance, trial it with a brown, olive, dark green or black back layer; a clear, white or pearlescent section creates a cleaner contrast. Add suitable high-temperature gold, copper, black or red glitter separately only after mixing the shade. These are appearance suggestions, not a promise of fishing effectiveness.

Adding colour to hot plastisol

For this range, SAF recommends adding the colour in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and at a clear working state. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-cloudy base; in the clear, hot mixture, you can see the change after each addition. Always prepare plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g or a single universal working temperature. The result is affected by the dispensing nozzle, base plastisol, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount, check a thin, cooled drop or test casting, and keep a record of the recipe.

Choosing a pack size

The 50 g pack is practical for an initial comparison of Gourd with other warm shades, small batches and your own tests. The 250 g option makes sense for regular use or repeatedly making the same recipe. Pack size does not change the dispensing method or the need to homogenise the paste thoroughly before use.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the bottle upright in its original, tightly closed container, in a dry place at a stable room temperature. Protect it from direct sunlight, heat sources, frost and substantial temperature fluctuations. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to return naturally to room temperature, and only then homogenise the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: With concentrated pigment paste, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label, particularly after transport and even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no evident loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been affected. After dispensing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or resealable bag.

Frequently asked questions about SaBoFlex Transparent Gourd

What does the name Gourd mean?

Gourd is the English term for a member of the squash family. In this range, it denotes a warm yellow-orange to pumpkin-ochre shade. It does not mean a green rind or automatically mean the colour Green Pumpkin; verify the final appearance in a cooled sample.

Is Transparent Gourd the same as Green Pumpkin?

There is no evidence that they are identical shades. Current photographs of Gourd show an orange-ochre concentrate, and the industry names for the two colours differ. We therefore do not use Green Pumpkin as a synonym for Gourd.

How does Gourd differ from Transparent Amber?

We describe Gourd as yellow orange to pumpkin ochre, while Amber is a brighter amber orange. The difference may appear subtle in a thin layer, so compare both shades in the same plastisol, at the same dosage and sample thickness.

Why does the concentrate in the bottle look richer than the finished casting?

In the bottle, the concentrated paste forms a much thicker optical layer. After dispersion in plastisol and in a thin casting, both colour and translucency appear different. Do not decide how much to use from the appearance of the undiluted contents.

Can Gourd be layered with dark green or brown?

Yes. As a workshop colour suggestion, you can trial a dark green or brown back and use Gourd for the flank or belly. Cast every new pairing in a small quantity first and inspect the cooled boundary between the layers.

Does Gourd already contain gold or copper glitter?

Glitter is not documented as part of the colour. If you want to use it, choose separate glitter designed for plastisol processing temperatures and add it only after mixing the base shade.
