SaBoFlex Transparent Amber is a concentrated liquid pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It creates a translucent amber-orange base whose saturation can be controlled through gradual dispensing. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, airbrush paint or a surface coating.

The amber-orange shade of Amber

Amber belongs to the transparent SaBoFlex range. Expect a warm orange-to-amber character rather than pure yellow or neutral brown. A low dosage provides a light, warm tint, while a higher dosage produces a richer orange result; a cooled sample made with your own plastisol is always the deciding reference.

The term Transparent means that the colour is intended to produce translucent colouring. The degree of translucency, however, varies with the dosage, type of base plastisol and casting thickness. The name does not confirm fluorescence, UV activity, a metallic effect or non-migrating properties, and without a technical data sheet we do not attribute any of these properties to this variant.

How to use Transparent Amber in a lure

Amber can be used as the main colour for the whole body, as a warm flank or belly, or as a separate laminate layer. For earthy combinations, trial it with a brown, olive, smoke or black back layer; a clear, white or pearlescent section creates a paler contrast. The base can be complemented with suitable high-temperature gold, copper or black glitter. These are workshop appearance options, not claims that they will produce more bites.

Adding colour to hot plastisol

For this range, SAF recommends adding the colour in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and at a clear working state. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-cloudy base; in the clear, hot mixture, you can see the change after each addition. Always prepare plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g or a single universal working temperature. The result is affected by the dispensing nozzle, base plastisol, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount, check a thin, cooled drop or test casting, and keep a record of the recipe.

Choosing a pack size

The 50 g pack is practical for trying Amber for the first time, making small batches and keeping a broader palette of shades in the workshop. The 250 g option makes sense for regular use or repeatedly making the same recipe. Pack size does not change the dispensing method or the need to homogenise the paste thoroughly before use.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the bottle upright in its original, tightly closed container, in a dry place at a stable room temperature. Protect it from direct sunlight, heat sources, frost and substantial temperature fluctuations. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to return naturally to room temperature, and only then homogenise the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: With concentrated pigment paste, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label, particularly after transport and even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no evident loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been affected. After dispensing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or resealable bag.

Frequently asked questions about SaBoFlex Transparent Amber

Is Amber more yellow, orange or brown?

We describe it as an amber-orange shade: warmer and more orange than yellow, but lighter and brighter than a neutral brown. In a thin layer it may look paler, while a higher dosage or thicker casting produces a richer, warm tone. Always assess a cooled sample.

What is the difference between Transparent Amber and Transparent Gourd?

Amber tends towards a brighter amber-orange tone. Gourd is yellow-orange to pumpkin ochre and may look earthier. Because both plastisol and casting thickness alter the result, the most reliable approach is to compare the two shades in the same small test casting.

Will the lure remain clear after colouring?

Transparent Amber colours the plastisol but is intended to preserve a translucent character. This does not mean a colourless or optically crystal-clear lure. A higher dosage and greater thickness reduce light transmission.

Can I mix a paler honey-amber tone?

Start with a very small addition to clear plastisol and assess the shade only after it has cooled. ‘Honey’ is not a separate, guaranteed product specification; it is a possible workshop direction that must be verified in your base plastisol.

Which colours can be layered with Amber?

For warm, natural combinations, trial it with brown, olive, smoke or black; a clear, white or pearlescent section provides a pale contrast. Verify compatibility and the layer boundary in a small batch first.

Does Amber already contain glitter or a metallic effect?

Neither is documented as part of this shade. If you want sparkle, add separate, suitable high-temperature glitter only after mixing the base colour. Trial both the amount and colour combination in a small sample first.
