SaBoFlex Motor Oil Reddish – Plastisol Liquid Colour

Product detailed description
SaBoFlex Motor Oil Reddish is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It creates a muted oily-brown to olive base with a red-brown or rusty cast. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, an airbrush colour or a surface coating.
Motor Oil Reddish is warmer and browner than pure green or olive shades, and less pink than Motor Oil Pink. Its appearance can change with the dose, casting thickness and lighting, but the name alone does not confirm colour shift, transparency, UV activity or a non-migrating formulation. We do not claim these properties without a separate technical data sheet.
For this colour, SAF recommends adding it in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky base. In clear plastisol at working temperature, you can see the shade change as you work and increase the saturation in small steps. Prepare the plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.
We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size varies with the dispensing nozzle, while the base plastisol, dose, lure thickness, other additives and lighting all affect the final appearance. Start with a small amount; you can add more colour to a mixture that is too pale, but you cannot remove concentrate once added. For repeatable production, record the amount of plastisol, the dose of colour and the additives used.
Mix the colour thoroughly before dosing
SAF tip for easier homogenisation: we recommend 2 clean, completely dry stainless-steel mixing balls for the 50 g pack and 2–3 for the 250 g bottle. They help redistribute settled pigment evenly before dosing. Do not use lead balls or ordinary steel that is liable to corrode. Mixing balls are not included with the colour.
- Stir the base plastisol thoroughly from the bottom and heat it to a clear working state in accordance with its manufacturer's instructions; do not overheat it.
- Before dosing, shake or stir Motor Oil Reddish thoroughly so that the paste has an even colour and consistency throughout the pack, with no settled layer on the bottom.
- Add a small amount of colour to the hot plastisol first, then stir the mixture slowly but thoroughly.
- Check the shade on a thin, cooled drop or test casting. Build greater intensity gradually with further small additions.
- Add glitter and other visual additives only after mixing the base shade. Record a successful ratio for future batches.
Motor Oil Reddish can be used as a whole-body colour, on a darker back or flank, or in a multicoloured laminate with a lighter amber, cream or pearlescent belly. High-temperature copper, gold or red glitter will enhance the warm rusty component; green can complement the olive base. Always test a new composition in a small batch first.
The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches and maintaining a broader workshop palette. The 250 g pack makes sense for regular production or repeating one recipe. The concentration and recommended method of use do not change with the pack size.
Storage and packaging appearance
Store the colour upright in its original, tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight. Protect it from frost and significant temperature fluctuations. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to reach room temperature naturally before homogenising the contents. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.
Packaging note: particularly after transport, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label of this concentrated pigment paste, even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no visible loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been marked. After dosing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealable bag.
Working safely with hot plastisol
- Hot plastisol can cause severe burns. Wear safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves, long clothing and closed footwear.
- Work on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure effective ventilation, ideally local extraction of vapours directly at the source. Follow the safety and temperature instructions from the manufacturer of the plastisol used, and do not overheat the mixture.
- If the safety data sheet for the plastisol used or an assessment of the working conditions requires respiratory protection, choose a mask and filter suited to the specific substances and working conditions. An ordinary particulate dust respirator may not protect against gases and vapours.
- The container, dispensing nozzle and mixing tools must be clean and completely dry. Prevent water and other unsuitable liquids from coming into contact with hot plastisol.
- Close the colour firmly after use, keep it out of reach of children and follow the current product label and safety data sheet.
Frequently asked questions about SaBoFlex Motor Oil Reddish colour
How does Motor Oil Reddish differ from Motor Oil Pink?
Motor Oil Reddish has a muted brown-olive base with a red-brown to rusty cast. Motor Oil Pink takes the colour in a pinker direction. For an objective comparison, use the same plastisol, dose and casting thickness.
Does Motor Oil Reddish change colour with the light?
This property has not been documented separately for this product. Light, thickness and dose can change the perceived balance of brown, olive and red, but we do not claim a specific colour-shift effect or UV activity without a technical data sheet.
How can I achieve a more muted or fuller oily tone?
For a softer result, start with a low dose. Build a fuller brown-red appearance by adding the concentrate gradually. Assess each step on a cooled drop, as the hot mixture and a thick layer can appear different.
Which part of a multicoloured lure suits this shade?
As a darker layer, it can form the back or flank above a lighter belly. It can also be used for the whole body or as a middle transition between dark brown and amber. These are suggestions for workshop testing, not a fixed recipe.
Which glitter enhances the individual components of the shade?
Copper, gold and red emphasise the warm red-brown side; green complements the olive base. Use high-temperature glitter and start with a small amount so that the motor-oil tone itself remains visible.
Is Motor Oil Reddish transparent and non-migrating?
The available information does not confirm these properties. Specifications differ between motor-oil colours from other manufacturers, so they cannot be applied to SaBoFlex. If these properties are essential to your project, request the current TDS and carry out a test before starting a production run.
