Product detailed description

SaBoFlex Green Pumpkin is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It is formulated to create an earthy olive-brown-green shade. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into base plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, an airbrush colour or a surface coating.

Green Pumpkin is an established soft-lure colour family spanning muted olive, green and brown. At a low dose, this paste may appear lighter and more olive; at a higher dose, darker and more brown-green. The concentrate in the bottle looks almost brown-black in the photographs, but it is not an exact colour reference for the finished casting; assess the final shade only on a cooled sample.

Green Pumpkin is not the same as SaBoFlex Motor Oil Green, Transparent Olive or Standard Green. Nor does the name confirm any particular opacity or transparency, fluorescence, UV activity, metallic or pearlescent effect, or a colour shift with the angle of the light. We do not attribute these properties to the colour without a separate technical data sheet.

For this pigment paste, SAF recommends adding it in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky base; in clear plastisol at working temperature, you can see the shade change after each addition. Prepare the base in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size depends on the dispensing nozzle, while the plastisol used, casting thickness, other additives and lighting all affect the appearance. Start with a small amount; you can add more colour to a weak mixture, but you cannot remove concentrate once added. For repeatable results, record the weight of plastisol, the amount of colour and all additives.

Homogenise first, then build the shade

SAF tip for easier homogenisation: we recommend 2 clean, completely dry stainless-steel mixing balls for the 50 g pack and 2–3 for the 250 g bottle. They help redistribute settled pigment evenly before dosing. Do not use lead balls or ordinary steel that is liable to corrode. Mixing balls are not included with the colour.

  1. Stir the base plastisol thoroughly from the bottom and heat it to a clear working state in accordance with its manufacturer's instructions; do not overheat it.
  2. Before dosing, shake or stir Green Pumpkin thoroughly so that the paste has an even colour and consistency throughout the pack, with no settled layer on the bottom.
  3. Add a small amount of colour to the hot plastisol first, then stir the mixture slowly but thoroughly.
  4. Check the shade on a thin, cooled drop or test casting. Build greater intensity gradually with further small additions.
  5. Add glitter and other visual additives only after mixing the base shade. Record a successful ratio for future batches.

Complete soft bait making range and workshop guide

Green Pumpkin can be used as the main colour for the whole body, for a darker back or flank, or as the top layer of a laminated lure with a lighter, amber or pearlescent belly. Its earthy character can be complemented with suitable high-temperature black, green, gold or copper glitter. These are workshop design options, not a guarantee of effectiveness; test any new combination in a small batch first.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches and maintaining a broader workshop palette. The 250 g pack makes more sense for regular production or repeating one recipe, offers better value per gram and is easier to shake thoroughly because of its greater contents weight. The concentration and method of use do not change with the pack size.

Storage and packaging appearance

Store the colour upright in its original, tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight, heat sources and frost. The manufacturer does not publish an exact storage-temperature range or frost resistance. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to reach room temperature naturally before homogenising it. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: particularly after transport, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label of this concentrated pigment paste, even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no visible loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been marked. After dosing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealable bag.

Working safely with hot plastisol

  • Hot plastisol can cause severe burns. Wear safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves, long clothing and closed footwear.
  • Work on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure effective ventilation, ideally local extraction of vapours directly at the source. Follow the safety and temperature instructions from the manufacturer of the plastisol used, and do not overheat the mixture.
  • If the safety data sheet for the plastisol used or an assessment of the working conditions requires respiratory protection, choose a mask and filter suited to the specific substances and working conditions. An ordinary particulate dust respirator may not protect against gases and vapours.
  • The container, dispensing nozzle and mixing tools must be clean and completely dry. Prevent water and other unsuitable liquids from coming into contact with hot plastisol.
  • Close the colour firmly after use, keep it out of reach of children and follow the current product label and safety data sheet.

Frequently asked questions about SaBoFlex Green Pumpkin colour

What shade does Green Pumpkin describe?

In soft-lure terminology, it is an earthy blend of muted olive, green and brown. The precise balance of these tones is not standardised across manufacturers. With SaBoFlex, therefore, use a cooled test casting as your guide rather than relying only on the name or the colour of the concentrate in the bottle.

What is the difference between Green Pumpkin and Motor Oil Green?

Green Pumpkin is based on an earthy brown-green foundation, while Motor Oil Green emphasises the smoky green-olive character of the Motor Oil family. The names are not interchangeable. For an accurate comparison, make equally concentrated test castings of equal thickness from the same plastisol.

Is Green Pumpkin transparent, UV-active or metallic?

The product belongs to the Special range, but that alone does not confirm any of these properties. Without a technical data sheet, we do not state a precise opacity, transparency, UV activity, fluorescence, or metallic or pearlescent effect. For a specific effect, use a colour explicitly labelled as having it.

How can I make a two-colour lure with Green Pumpkin?

The shade can be used for the back or top layer and paired with a lighter, amber or pearlescent belly. Test both parts separately first so that their intensity and working time suit the chosen plastisol and mould.

Which glitter suits this shade?

For an earthy palette, try suitable high-temperature black, green, gold or copper glitter. Mix the colour without it first, then add a small amount of glitter and check on a cooled sample that it does not overpower the base shade.

Can Green Pumpkin be mixed with another liquid colour?

Yes, provided both concentrates are intended for the same plastisol system, but without technical data sheets we cannot guarantee universal compatibility across all brands and ranges. Prepare a new combination in a small batch, record the ratios precisely and check it only after the full heating cycle.
