SaBoFlex Motor Oil Green is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It is designed to create a muted smoky-green to olive-green shade from the Motor Oil colour family. This is a colour concentrate that is mixed into base plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, actual motor oil, airbrush paint or a surface coating.
Motor Oil Green emphasises the green and olive side of this established industry colour family. Depending on the dose, base plastisol, thickness and lighting, a cooled sample may range from smoky green to a deeper olive green with a brownish undertone. The photograph of the dark green concentrate helps identify the variant, but it does not replace a sample of the finished lure.
Motor Oil Green is not the same as Motor Oil Brown, Green Pumpkin, Transparent Olive or Standard Green. The name Motor Oil alone does not confirm a colour-shift or dichroic effect, or any particular transparency. Without a technical data sheet, we also make no claims regarding UV activity, fluorescence, opacity, a metallic or pearlescent effect, or migration.
For this pigment paste, SAF recommends adding it a little at a time to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky base; in clear working plastisol, you can see the change in shade after every addition. Prepare the base in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.
We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size depends on the dispensing nozzle, while the plastisol used, cast thickness, other additives and light all affect the appearance. Start with a small amount; you can add more colour to a mixture that is not strong enough, but you cannot remove concentrate once added. For repeatability, record the weight of plastisol, the amount of colour and all additives.
Homogenise first, then build the shade
SAF tip for easier homogenisation: we recommend adding 2 clean, completely dry stainless-steel mixing balls to a 50 g pack, and 2–3 to a 250 g bottle. They help redisperse settled pigment evenly before dosing. Do not use lead balls or ordinary steel that is prone to corrosion. Mixing balls are not included with the colour.
- Stir the base plastisol thoroughly from the bottom, then heat it in accordance with its manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a clear working state; do not overheat it.
- Thoroughly shake or stir Motor Oil Green before dosing so that the paste has an even colour and consistency throughout the pack, with no settled layer at the bottom.
- Add a small amount of colour to the hot plastisol first, then stir the mixture slowly but thoroughly.
- Check the shade in a thin, cooled drop or test cast. Increase the intensity gradually with further small additions.
- Add glitter and other visual additives only after mixing the base shade. Record a successful ratio for future batches.
Motor Oil Green can be used for the entire body, back or flank, or as an olive-green laminate layer with an amber, brown, smoke or pearlescent belly. Suitable high-temperature green, gold, copper or black glitter can complement the appearance. These are workshop composition options, not claims about visibility or effectiveness in the water.
The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making small batches and maintaining a broader workshop palette. The 250 g pack makes more sense for regular production or repeating one recipe, offers better value per gram, and its greater content weight makes it easier to shake the entire bottle. The concentration and method of use do not change with pack size.
Storage and packaging appearance
Store the colour upright in its original, tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature, away from direct sunlight, heat sources and frost. The manufacturer does not publish an exact storage range or frost resistance. Allow a chilled, sealed bottle to return naturally to room temperature and only then homogenise it. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.
Packaging note: With a concentrated pigment paste, a light oily film around the thread or a stain on the label may appear, particularly after transport, even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no apparent loss of contents, this superficial trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been marked. After dosing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or sealed bag.
Working safely with hot plastisol
- Hot plastisol can cause severe burns. Wear safety glasses, heat-resistant gloves, long clothing and closed footwear.
- Work on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure effective ventilation, ideally local extraction of vapours directly at the source. Follow the safety and temperature instructions provided by the manufacturer of the plastisol used, and do not overheat the mixture.
- If the safety data sheet for the plastisol used or an assessment of the working conditions requires respiratory protection, select a mask and filter suited to the specific substances and conditions. A standard particulate dust respirator may not protect against gases and vapours.
- The container, dispensing nozzle and mixing tools must be clean and completely dry. Prevent water and other unsuitable liquids from coming into contact with hot plastisol.
- Close the colour firmly after use, keep it out of reach of children, and follow the current product label and safety data sheet.
