SaBoFlex Transparent Dark Green is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It belongs to the transparent range and is intended to give the entire casting or selected layers a translucent colour. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, airbrush paint or a surface coating.

The name Transparent Dark Green denotes the transparent dark green range. In the current product photographs, the concentrated paste appears as a very deep, cooler green with a blue-green to emerald sheen; in a full bottle, it may look almost black. The precise hue of the finished casting, however, is determined by the dosage, plastisol, thickness and lighting.

This shade is deeper and cooler in colour than the olive range, which has a more yellow-green appearance. It is not automatically opaque, and the name does not indicate fluorescence, UV activity, pearlescence, a metallic effect or non-migrating properties. At a higher dosage or in a very thick section, transparent dark green may appear optically closed, so assess it in transmitted light as well.

For this colour, SAF recommends adding it in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-cloudy base. Once mixed into clear plastisol at working temperature, you can see the shade change as you work and increase the saturation in small steps. Always prepare plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size varies with the dispensing nozzle, while the finished appearance depends on the base plastisol, dosage, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount; you can add more colour to a mixture that is too pale, but you cannot remove concentrate once it has been added. For repeatable production, record the amount of plastisol, colour dosage and additives used.

A lower dosage can give the flanks or an entire translucent body a green tint; a higher intensity produces a more pronounced back, lateral stripe or dark upper laminate layer. Mix in suitable high-temperature green, gold, copper or holographic glitter only after completing the base shade.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches and keeping a broader colour palette in the workshop. The 250 g pack makes more sense for regular production or repeatedly making the same recipe, and offers better value per gram. Pack size does not change the concentration or method of use.

Storage and packaging appearance

The manufacturer's exact storage range is not stated in the available documentation. Store the colour upright in its original, tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight, heat sources and frost. Before opening a chilled, sealed bottle, allow it to return naturally to room temperature, then homogenise the contents thoroughly. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: With concentrated pigment paste, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label, particularly after transport and even when the bottle is sealed. Provided there is no evident loss of contents, this surface trace does not affect use of the colour; we apologise if the label has been affected. After dispensing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or resealable bag.

Will a dark green casting look black?

In a thick layer, at a high dosage or against a dark background, it may look almost black. The green character will show more clearly against the light or at a thinner edge. If you want to retain translucency, increase the intensity very slowly.

Is Dark Green only suitable for a lure's back?

No. A back is a natural use for a dark shade, but a low dosage can also be used for the entire body or flanks, with a separate batch for the upper laminate layer. Check each section at its actual thickness.

Can I create a smooth green transition with Dark Green?
