SaBoFlex Transparent Blue is a concentrated pigment paste for colouring plastisol when making soft-plastic fishing lures. It belongs to the transparent range and is intended to give the entire casting or selected layers a translucent colour. This is a colour concentrate designed to be mixed into plastisol – not ready-to-use plastisol, airbrush paint or a surface coating.

The name Transparent Blue denotes the transparent blue colour range, not Baby Blue, Aqua Blue or Fluo Blue. In the current product photographs, the concentrated paste has a deep cobalt to dark blue appearance and looks almost black in bulk. Once dispersed in plastisol, its true hue and translucency only become apparent in a cooled sample.

Transparent Blue is intended to produce translucent blue colouring. The name alone does not indicate a pale pastel, fluorescent, UV, pearlescent or metallic effect, nor does it guarantee the same transparency at every dosage. A high concentration or thick section of a casting may look considerably darker than a thin edge.

For this colour, SAF recommends adding it in small increments to plastisol that is already hot and clear. It is difficult to assess the true intensity in a cold, milky-cloudy base. Once mixed into clear plastisol at working temperature, you can see the shade change as you work and increase the saturation in small steps. Always prepare plastisol in accordance with its manufacturer's temperature and safety instructions, and do not overheat it.

We do not specify a fixed number of drops per 100 g. Drop size varies with the dispensing nozzle, while the finished appearance depends on the base plastisol, dosage, lure thickness, other additives and lighting. Start with a small amount; you can add more colour to a mixture that is too pale, but you cannot remove concentrate once it has been added. For repeatable production, record the amount of plastisol, colour dosage and additives used.

A low dosage can be used for lightly blue flanks, a belly or an entire translucent body; a higher intensity suits a darker back, lateral stripe or separate laminate layer. In the workshop, the blue base can be combined with a clear, white, silver or pearlescent layer. Add suitable high-temperature blue, silver or holographic glitter only after mixing the base shade.

The 50 g option is practical for trying the shade for the first time, making smaller batches and keeping a broader colour palette in the workshop. The 250 g pack makes more sense for regular production or repeatedly making the same recipe, and offers better value per gram. Pack size does not change the concentration or method of use.

Storage and packaging appearance

The manufacturer's exact storage range is not stated in the available documentation. Store the colour upright in its original, tightly closed bottle, in a dry place at a stable room temperature and away from direct sunlight, heat sources and frost. Before opening a chilled, sealed bottle, allow it to return naturally to room temperature, then homogenise the contents thoroughly. Do not warm it on a radiator or hotplate, or in a microwave.

Packaging note: With concentrated pigment paste, a light oily film may appear around the thread or a mark may appear on the label, particularly after transport and even when the bottle is sealed. After dispensing, wipe the neck and thread, retighten the cap firmly and store the bottle upright, ideally in a washable tray or resealable bag.

When should I choose Transparent Blue instead of Baby Blue?

Choose Transparent Blue when you want translucent blue colouring and visible depth in the material. Baby Blue denotes a different, pale blue shade with no documented transparency. Both names are trade designations, so compare them using cooled samples.

Is Transparent Blue the same as Aqua Blue or Fluo Blue?

No. Aqua Blue belongs to a different shade or effects range, while Fluo Blue expressly denotes a fluorescent colour. Transparent Blue confirms only the transparent blue range; without documentation, we do not attribute metallic, pearlescent, fluorescent or UV effects to it.

Can a finished casting be very dark blue and still translucent?

Yes, a visually darker tone can be produced with a higher dosage or greater thickness, but actual light transmission depends on the plastisol and the geometry of the part. Test every intended thickness separately and do not infer the result from the colour in the mixing container.

Is translucent blue also suitable for a lure's belly?

The photograph shows a high concentration in a thick layer under specific lighting. In a casting, the paste is dispersed through plastisol, and the result is affected by its clarity, the dosage, thickness, additives and light. Your own cooled sample should always be the reference.
